My name is Benjamin Hernandez and I am a currently a QA Tester at Respawn Entertainment and a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. I studied Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Application Development.
At Respawn, I worked on the PC, PS5, XSX, XSS, PS4 and XB1 versions of Jedi: Survivor. I have learned a lot about game development and working in collaboration with cross-functional teams. I took a primary point of contact role on various features (such as Void Tears, Holotactics, Shines, Stone Spires level, Baked Lighting, Cinematics, and others) which entailed creating and managing test plans and documentation to ensure proper test coverage.
I also drove initiatives to improve team processes and workflows. For example, I drove the initiative of a Feature Tracker that allowed QA to work alongside other departments to establish a list of features and their statuses to properly communicate what features are testable, in progress, and if they have been tested. This feature was in use during the creation of the Gen 4 port of Jedi: Survivor and was used on another Respawn project.
At Cal Poly, I studied programming languages like Java, C#, JavaScript, HTML, and became familiar with developing software in a team environment. However, throughout those years I always admired the world of design. I appreciate the way design is inclusive and helps give the world color. I also enjoy the aspect of collaborating with others to solve problems. Design work is exciting to me because I am able to learn constantly and I am encouraged to look at the world through different lenses.
